On River Street Raising Funds for Breast Cancer Research

Monticello, MN October 3, 2004 -- Small business owner promoting breast cancer awareness through the month of October and setting goal to raise $1,000 for breast cancer research.

Jennifer Strumbel, owner of On River Street, is raising awareness of breast cancer this month by offering a selection of pink ribbon products whose proceeds will benefit Breast Cancer research. Each product designates an amount of $3.00 - $5.00 for donation.

Throughout the month of October, shoppers can visit the On River Street website (www.onriverstreet.com) and choose from a selection of pink ribbon products including candles, pins, bracelets and a scarf. Orders are accepted via the website, phone or fax. Funds from each product sold will be donated to a breast cancer research organization. A goal of raising $1,000 has been set for October.

In addition to products being available for purchase, On River Street is again partnering with InternetBasedMoms.com to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month by participating in Breast Cancer Fundraiser Parties being held through the course of the month.

Despite the growing awareness of breast cancer, there are still women who do not take advantage of early detection of breast cancer at all and others who do not get screening mammograms and clinical breast exams at regular intervals.
According to the organization, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), If all women age 40 and older took advantage of early detection methods mammography plus clinical breast exam breast cancer death rates would drop much further, up to 30 percent. The key to mammography screening is that it be done routinely once is not enough.

Says Strumbel, Breast Cancer touched my life 10 years ago when my maternal grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer and 3 years later when my mother was diagnosed. Since then, I have made every effort I can to educate and donate to the research for finding a cure.
